Angelina Jolie is currently in Venice, Italy, shooting for “The Tourist,” a film that will also star Johnny Depp. While photos of her on set are emerging online on a daily basis, some fans are outraged she’s been chosen for a part in a film that will only go into production later this year, that of forensic investigator Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the Daily Mail reports.
Dr. Scarpetta is a popular fictional character created by US writer Patricia Cornwell, a well respected author of crime books, which are believed to have inspired some of the most famous crime series now running on TV. She has sold the rights for a long feature adaptation and, as per ongoing reports, plans are in place to make of the first film the basis of a successful and long-lived franchise. Angelina Jolie was chosen as the lead, but fans of the novels fear she might be too “exotic” for how the character was initially conceived.
“Angelina Jolie has sparked fury among the fans of Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling crime novels by being chosen to play its heroine Kay Scarpetta. Many say Jolie is ‘too glamorous’ and ‘exotic’ looking to play the screen version of the medical examiner. The character in 17 best selling books is a petite, middle-aged woman with short blonde hair – much like the 53-year-old author herself,” the Mail reports.
Mrs. Cornwell herself says Jolie was not her first choice but she was more than happy to have her when she heard she was available. “When Angelina came out of the left field last year, I was floored. Angelina had pithy things to say about what she wanted to do,” Mrs. Cornwell says of how the first meeting with Jolie went. “She was direct and goal-oriented. She waited on everyone, getting them their lunch, while her own staff was seated. She was aware intuitively how other people were feeling and wanted to make them comfortable. It was not typical for people of her stature,” the writer adds.
Fans writing on the message boards on Cornwell’s official website, though, are a far cry from seeing things her way. Most of them have read all her books and Jolie is the last person they would see play the main character, because she’s “exotic,” while the forensic specialist has “class,” is “striking” and of an athletic build. A better choice would have been Jodie Foster, they say, as per the above-mentioned publication.

Wanted |
Mark Millar has revealed that Wanted 2 is “certainly going ahead” without Angelina Jolie.
Speaking to STV, the movie’s creator refuted yesterday’s news that Universal had pulled the sequel because of Jolie’s non-involvement.
Millar said: “Wanted 2 will be certainly going ahead, because the first one made too much money for them not to do a sequel.
“What was funny was originally Wanted was just going to be one movie, and Angelina dies at the end, Morgan Freeman dies at the end – sorry to anyone who hasn’t bought it yet.”
He continued: “The idea was that it was going to be self-contained, but the movie cost $75 million to make and it made $314 million back just theatrically. At the premiere the tracking was really good and everything, and the producer came up and said ‘What are we going to do for Wanted 2?’ and I was like ‘I don’t have any ideas!’”

Angelina and Brad enjoy a nice day out with their children and Angelina’s father Hollywood actor Jon Voight. They loaded their family onto their taxi boat and headed off down Venice’s Grand Canal turning off it for the quieter back alley ways. Brad enjoyed a seat up front with the driver being joined by father-in-law Jon Voight moments later. Hollywood’s biggest family arrived back home and were helped off the boat by their friendly taxi driver.

Life is never boring for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – or their six kids.
After spending several months in Los Angeles – with a few weeks in New York – the international family headed to Venice, Italy, on Monday, where Jolie is soon expected to begin shooting her upcoming thriller, The Tourist, with Johnny Depp.
Last week, Jolie went on a three-day trip to earthquake-ravaged Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic before joining Pitt and the kids for a long Valentine’s Day weekend in Los Angeles. Friday turned out to be family night, with the entire Jolie-Pitt brood enjoying a sizzling dinner at a Benihana Japanese Steakhouse.
The next evening Pitt, 46, and Jolie, 34, stepped out for a private event at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. The family laid low on Valentine’s Day Sunday – then jetted off to Venice on Monday.
It didn’t take long for them to be spotted grabbing some ice cream while they took in their new, temporary home.
Should they return to their European base at Chateau Miraval during their stay, the family will be able to enjoy a new addition to the property: a 300-to-400-year-old olive tree purchased at English Garden Center in Opio, France, which is scheduled to be planted at Miraval this spring.
