Angelina Jolie, who once swapped vial of blood with ex-husband Billy Bob Thorton and infamously kissed her brother, is actually just a normal, “great” mother, according to Johnny Depp.
The “Tourist” actor says he wasn’t sure what to expect from the mother of six because of the frequent fantastical portrayals of her and partner Brad Pitt in the media.
“I was immediately impressed by her. Well, not that I read much in the press about myself or even anyone, but you can’t help but know that she and Brad are globally hounded and tracked down,” the 47-year-old actor said.
“What I was most impressed with Angelina first and foremost was her normality… also, she’s a great mommy.”
And although Depp, who has two young children with his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis, did not know much about Angelina before they met, he knew he would be working with an actress with a versatile talent.
“The only thing that sticks out in my mind is ‘The Changeling’ – her performance was magnificent, so I knew I’d be stepping into the ring with someone who was going to be deeply committed. But at the same time she understands the need for humour, the ability to travel outside of the script sometimes. She was a real sport in that sense.”

Latest News , The Tourist |
Angelina Jolie has broken the hearts of a thousand comic book fans by confirming that she’s not been approached to play Catwoman in Chris Nolan’s trilogy-capper The Dark Knight Rises.
While out and about promoting new film The Tourist, Jolie told MTV: “I haven’t heard anything about it, but I thought they did it.”
By ‘it’ she’s either referring to Michelle Pfeiffer’s stellar turn in Batman Returns, or Halle Berry’s, uh, less celebrated solo outing, Catwoman.
When told she would be perfect for the role, Jolie played coy: “I see. Thank you. Flattering.”
Is she just keeping schtum at the behest of Chris Nolan? Or is Jolie really not interested in starring in another comic book adap? Let the Dark Knight Rises rumours roll on…

Yes, Golden Globe voters love them some movie stars.
A quick look at the film categories from today’s nominations announcement:
Jolie was a gasp-inducing nominee for Comedy-Musical Actress for The Tourist, which, frankly, we didn’t know was a comedy. (Maybe it’s a musical?) She’s up against potential Oscar candidates Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, both from The Kids Are All Right, Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) and happy-surprise Emma Stone, who charmed in Easy A.
If you think like the Hollywood Foreign Press thinks—i.e., Stars! Stars! Stars!—then Berry’s Drama Actress nod for the obscure Frankie & Alice is not a surprise. Her competition includes names that you’ll be seeing a lot of: Winter’s Bone’s Jennifer Lawrence, Black Swan’s Natalie Portman and Blue Valentine’s Michelle Williams. Nicole Kidman, also a nominee here, is a Globes dream: She’s a first-class movie star, and a legitimate awards-season contender for the wrenching Rabbit Hole.
Depp picked up two nominations in the occasionally goofy Comedy-Musical division. There, he’s up for Best Actor for Alice in Wonderland (expected) and The Tourist (um, not). Jake Gyllenhaal (Love and Other Drugs), Kevin Spacey (Casino Jack) and Paul Giamatti (Barney’s Version) round out the category. None are considered favorites to pick up Oscar nominations.
